Well, I went to see the movie Julie/Julia tonight. Alone. My husband said he wanted to go but I sensed he did not and my son is in the throes of testosterone poisoning so a thing even closely resembling a ‘chick flick’ won’t be anywhere in his present or future for at least ….10 years when his then wife drags him out for a date night.
So just me. I love Meryle Streep. Watching her has inspired me as an actress my whole life. Amy Adams….now one of my new favorites. What a delightful movie and here I am because of it. Inspired to write because of it. I have been a bit aimless here in this blog. I said I wanted this to be a place for the feminine voice in theater. Well….that is a big …and impossible task. One person cannot speak for all females in theater. I do not wish to either. I can, however, speak for this one female in the theater. This will be my voice speaking here. My voice.
The film follows the blogging and cooking life of Julie. She cooks her way through a wonderful book co-written by Julia Child and she is transformed though that journey.
OK. Good…good start and very inspiring to me. I had thought I wanted to follow the 13 phases of female life (maiden to crone) I had based my workshops in 2001 and 2002 on. I was going to outline them and work through them here. I was going to do it generically. Now, I think not. Best I do it through me. I am not here to be self centered. I am really here to teach. Teach I will. I have a terrible fear that I will die without ever sharing all the knowledge I have. Over these many years I have studied, read, produced, designed, acted, sung, studied..studied some more…and more and performed lots and lots and lots. Actually, it is 42 years now. WOW! I have been teaching some and yet….it is not enough for me. I am at an age now where it is time to give it all back. All I can muster up to share. Share I will.
So who am I?
48 years old. Brooklyn native, Brooklyn NY. Born, raised and proud of the fact. Yes, the accent is mostly gone. I can get it back on stage if need be. Love that accent! I am a mother of the previously mentioned testosterone poisoned child. I am a director, actress, designer, singer, teacher, FX make up artist, hairstylist and yes….I also cook, garden, make cheese, soap, perfume, candles, incense….and much much more. Oh and I formed my first theater company at 19. I still run one.

just in case you want to see my stuff.
Anyway, that’s me. Just directed a pretty big project. It was an important project for me. I have lots to say about that and regarding that. How it was a harrowing experience for me and how…my lead actor, yes actor, tried to take me down at every turn. Why? Because I am female. This I am sure of. However, I persisted and the show went up, intact even with his harmful energy, insensitive behavior and boorish old fashioned misogyny.
So since the Julie in the movie I just saw and the Julia also have inspired me to be organized and follow my path I am beginning tonight. Oh and let me also mention that the blog (which I just started reading tonight) is fascinating too. Highly recommend the Julie/Julia project.
I will begin to write about my life in the theater. I will write about this woman’s journey in the theater. I will never use names.
Let it be known that I am also a Witch, a card carrying Pagan. I have been on this path for quite sometime now. This 13 phases of womanhood system I am using is inherently Pagan, Wiccan and spiritual. I am going to write about not just my experiences in the theater but how theater is also tied and really one and the same as my spiritual path. Theater was originally a type of Pagan worship. Human actors portraying Gods and Goddesses spoke to the Greeks in their outdoor theaters during worship, ritual and festivals honoring those deities. I am a high priestess of the theater. I wear that mantle proudly and take it’s responsibility seriously. I have considered my self a Priestess of theater since I was 17. But more about that later.
If you don’t like Pagans….don’t bother me about it. Just don’t read. If you are open minded and accepting you will most certainly learn very much here. If you are like me you will have lots of fun exploring your Priestess-hood too. Priests of any ilk are most certainly invited and honored here too.
Let me say this now. I love men I have always loved men. I respect the male force of the universe as much as the female. I am not here to male bash. Never would. I will however expose misogyny as often as I see fit. I will also chronicle my journey both for good and bad. While on that journey I have been harmed and helped by both men and women. Both sexes are glorious and both have faults. I am not here to harm anyone.
I have an on line pagan store too: themagicalapothecary.com
all handmade stuff check it out if you are so inclined.

Lughnasadh harvest!
There all done.
Next blog must be about the Maiden. Maiden is a girl from infancy to puberty in my outline of things and she is the new moon. I will make sure I cover as much of that in the topic as I can. If you like start writing with me.
Blessings and Break a leg!
